What scrunchie “size” really changes
When choosing between Medium, Large and XLarge, think first about how much silk you want around the gathered hair and how substantial you want the accessory to look. A larger scrunchie can visually balance a fuller bun or dense ponytail; a smaller one can disappear more quietly into fine hair or a low, polished style.
Do not treat the labels as a rigid hair-type hierarchy. The hairstyle you are creating is often more useful than a generic “fine / medium / thick” category.

Medium usually makes the cleanest starting point. A small gathered section rarely needs a very large fabric halo unless that contrast is intentional. The accessory should follow the job, not a rule that says long hair always needs the largest size.
