A good silk eye mask should do four things well: use clearly specified silk, reduce the light reaching the eyes, fit around the nose and cheeks without large gaps, and stay secure without needing uncomfortable tension. Why light control matters

Light is not only something you notice while your eyes are open. 2. Light reduction: judge the whole mask, not one specification

The most common shopping shortcut is also one of the least reliable: “higher momme equals blackout.” It does not. A dense silk shell can still leak light around the nose or sides; a softer construction may reduce more light on one face than another because it follows the contours better.

A practical test is simple. Put the mask on in a bright room without overtightening it. Look for the direction of remaining light: under the nose, at the temples, or through the body of the mask. If the issue is a nose gap, pulling the band tighter may only create more pressure without solving the geometry.

3. Nose and coverage fit: geometry is personal
